Tom Cruise

Sure, he has his moments of couch-jumping craziness, but Tom Cruise also has an impressive track record of spontaneously helping people in need. The Rock of Ages star chased down and caught a jewel thief in London in 1998; lifted two children from the crush of a mob at the British Mission Impossible premiere; changed a family's flat tire on a country rode while shooting The Last Samurai in New Zealand; and saved a sailboat's passengers from drowning in the Mediterranean Sea when their ship caught fire near his yacht in 1996. Also in 1996, he aided a Hollywood hit-and-run victim and paid her emergency room bill; then, 10 years later, he and his now-estranged wife Katie Holmes pulled over to assist victims of a car crash on L.A.'s 101 Freeway. Basically, if it weren't for his starring role in a certain film franchise, the words "mission impossible" wouldn't exist in Tom Cruise's vocabulary!
