This week, any bit of news about Tom Cruise is naturally seen in light of last Friday's explosive revelation that he and Katie Holmes are divorcing. Thankfully, there's a bit of bright spot for the 50-year-old actor: Cruise earned $75 million between May 2011 and May 2012, leading Forbes to award him the No. 1 spot on their annual list of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood. (The big pay days came from his work on Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol and the upcoming sci-fi film Oblivion.)
So, naturally, the question media pundits are asking is: What role will his windfall play in the divorce?
Some sites have claimed that the couple had a pre-nup that would entitle Katie to $3 million a year for every year that she's been Tom's wife, as well as give her dibs on their mansion in Montecito. But an inside source told TMZ that Katie will walk away with "virtually nothing from Tom Cruise by way of $$$$ because their pre-nup cuts her out of his fortune."
Frankly, it's somewhat silly to debate the money issue. Both of these actors are swimming in cash. And whoever ends up rearing 6-year-old Suri, the kid's not going to want for any material things. Now, as for her religious indoctrination, that's up for grabs.
As for the other A-list actors to make Forbes' highest-paid list, the runners-up weren't even close to Cruise. Leonardo DiCaprio and Adam Sandler tied for second place with $37 million in earnings from May to May, which isn't even half of what Cruise raked in. Grabbing the No. 4 spot was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson with $36 million, followed by fifth place finisher Ben Stiller with $33 million. Sacha Baron Cohen and Johnny Depp and Will Smith tied for sixth with $30 million apiece, Mark Wahlberg snagged ninth with $27 million, and Twilight heartthrobs Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner tied for the No. 10 spot with $26.5 million each. Their Twilight costar Kristen Stewart, meanwhile, earned a cool $34.5 million to top Forbes' highest-paid actresses list, which was unveiled in June.
