After weeks apart, Tom Cruise reunited with his daughter Suri in New York City on July 17 -- the first time they'd seen each other since before Katie Holmes' suprise divorce filing on June 28 -- and it looks like they've been having a blast.
Cruise, 50, was seen taking his 6-year-old on a helicopter ride around N.Y.C. on Wednesday, carrying her around the West 30th Street heliport while she clung tightly to him.
And although Holmes, 33, reportedly received primary custody of Suri thanks to the ex-couple's July 7 divorce settlement, Cruise's lawyer says that any tabloid stories suggesting that Tom didn't want to see his daughter sooner are completely false.
"Until this week, Tom was shooting a film on location, but he spoke to Suri every day," Bert Fields said in a statement. "Tom dearly loves Suri, and the last thing he would ever do is abandon her."
Holmes, 33, received primary custody of Suri in the ex-couple's July 7 divorce settlement and has stayed close to her daughter in New York while Cruise wrapped shooting on Oblivion in Iceland and Los Angeles. But now that his time on the Joseph Kosinski film is done, Holmes seems to have kindly stepped aside to let her husband of five years and daughter spend quality time together.
Cruise and Suri were first reunited on July 17, and have spent every day together since. Holmes, meanwhile, has been spotted around New York City alone, attending spin class at SoulCycle among other things. So it seems like Tom and Katie are trying to keep the split amicalbe for their daughter's sake, and we sure hope it stays that way.
"Tom tried his best to do what's right for Suri," Bert Fields said in a previous statement, adding that Cruise is not "bitter" about the situation -- just "sad."
