Are Tom Hanks and Seth Green Flying into a Volcano?

The press release announcing Richard Branson's latest venture, Virgin Volcanic, says the actors are heading to the core of an active volcano

If you thought Ashton Kutcher going to outer space was crazy, wait until you get a load of this! Richard Branson, the CEO behind Virgin Galactic recreational space flights, has announced his newest venture: Virgin Volcanic, which will take passengers to the core of an active volcano. Scheduled to come aboard the first expedition? Tom Hanks, Will.i.am and Seth Green. The plan was unveiled to the world via press release on Sunday.

That's right: Sunday -- as in April 1. Happy belated April Fool's Day!

Even knowing that the volcano-diving ship is a prank, it's still pretty amusing. Designed to mirror the very real Virgin Galactic website, the Virgin Volcanic site contains a testimonial from Branson himself ("volcanoes are the next great unexplored terrain"), as well as enthusiastic endorsements from his supposed celebrity passengers.

"Ever since filming Austin Powers, I've had this obsession with underground layers," says Green on the website. "I've waited patiently for Sir Richard to make the dream of traveling to the Earth's core a reality."
