Whoa! Tom Hanks Drops the F-Bomb on 'Good Morning America'

The actor seemed genuinely embarrassed after accidentally cursing on live television

Good Morning America host Elizabeth Vargas got much more than she bargained for when she asked Tom Hanks to show off a strange accent from his upcoming drama Cloud Atlas. Instead of just reciting a line or two, Hanks accidentally dropped the mother of all swear words on live television!

Appearing on the ABC show to promote the trippy futuristic film on Friday morning, Hanks was all smiles as he and Vargas chatted -- until she asked him to speak like one of the characters in the movie.

"Mostly it's swear words," he explained. Then, he proceeded to use the thick accent and said, "I want people to buy me f–––ing …" He then abruptly stopped, covered his mouth and apologized to Vargas, who looked equally as horrified by the slip.

Vargas recovered enough to sputter: "We are so sorry... we'll bleep that out."

And the Oscar winner, 56, also quickly apologized. "Man oh man, I'm sorry. I slipped into a brand of acting," he explained. "I have never done that before! I want to apologize to the kids in America that are watching this right now, and let me say next time I'm on the show there will be a seven-second delay."

Clearly Vargas wanted to continue with the interview, but Hanks wouldn't stop joking about it.

"Never give me a handheld mic," he continued. "I blame the staff, I blame the staff," he said, pointing around the room at the GMA crew.

Hanks ended his apologizing by asking America to "give it up for Lizzy V" for her handling of the situation. Leave it to Hanks to handle his oops with humor and class.
