Tony Awards Red Carpet: Tuxedos Don't Have to Be Boring!

These musical men really stepped up their fashion game for Broadway's big night

There's no red carpet uniform for women, but men have always had it easy: A black suit, white shirt and tie will take you anywhere from the Oscars to the VMAs. Since every man looks good in a basic tux, it's a no-brainer for celebrity formalwear. But it's also so predictable and leaves us nitpicking over tiny things like sleeve length and cufflinks.

Celebs who want to make a more memorable impression should take a cue from the guys at last night's Tony Awards. Here's a collection of the best suits we saw on Broadway's red carpet.

Tony Awards: Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka

Host Neil Patrick Harris does Sherlock Holmes chic in three-piece tweed. His fiance David Burtka is Watson, obviously.

Tony Awards: Tom Sturridge

With his big hat, skinny tie and scruffy hair, English actor Tom Sturridge looks like a cleaned-up rock star. We expect that he went straight from the Tonys to band practice. (Fiancee Sienna Miller, however, looks glam and gorgeous!)

Tony Awards: Matthew Morrison

We're guessing that his first-season Glee costumes made Matthew Morrison swear off vests forever. Still, the man likes a good cummerbund.

Tony Awards: Alan Cumming

Tony Awards: Jesse Tyler Ferguson & Justin Mikita

Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita are shiny happy people. Maybe the Modern Family star and his fiance polished themselves before they left the house?

Tony Awards: Jane Lynch

Glee star Jane Lynch reminds us that tuxes can be boring on a man -- but never on a woman.

Tony Awards: Jake Gyllenhaal

And finally, Jake Gyllenhaal reminds us that traditional tuxes have their own charms. Thank you, Jake.
