Carla Hall, one of the stars of Top Chef All-Stars, joined iVillage for an exclusive chat on Twitter. Check out her answers to your questions below!
@angelamatusik: Where do you get those fabulous glasses?
@carlahall: I have 2 working pair of glasses, but I have 5 other old pairs. My frames were given to me from a friend who reps NOEGO.
@iVillage: Would you rather have dinner with Tom Colicchio, Gail Simmons or Padma Lakshmi?
@carlahall: That's a hard question. I guess it would depend on the day. Most days it would be Gail, then Padma, then Tom.
@iVillage: How accurate is the editing on Top Chef? Are there people who come off worse than they really are?
@carlahall: About the editing ... as energetic and playful as I am, do you really think I would NOT run through the empty aisles of Target?
@BarooTalloo: Who has been the most outrageous chef to work with?
@carlahall: Outrageous chef? In a good way, I would say Angelo. I love his quirkiness.
@iVillage: What's your #1 advice for busy moms who don't have a ton of time but are trying to make healthy meals for kids?
@carlahall: Don't dummy down the food for kids. They take clues from adults. Make things where you cook once & use thrice. Add lots of veggies.
@iVillage: We haven't heard "hootie-hoo!" this season! Do you have a new catchphrase?
@carlahall: I try not to wear out the HootieHoo for others' sake, but I don't mind folk hootie'ing me. [My husband] Matthew and I hootie hoo each other every day.
@iVillage: Where can we find your old modeling pictures?
@carlahall: My modeling pics were done in the days before internet, but iVillage will post some. REMEMBER, they were done in the early 90s.
@iVillage: Check out this pic of Carla modeling in London in 1990!
@strictlyfab: What is your go-to dish when you don't have much time?
@carlahall: A "dump and roll" one pot wonder - black pepper chicken curry (Matthew's specialty), chicken stew and salads with bits and bobs
@BillybobN: I'd love to know if Carla earned any Girl Scout badges for cooking that inspired her!
@carlahall: I remember that day. I made spaghetti and an apple crisp. Making desserts is still like playing for me.
@thegwillis: What's your favorite city to dine out in?
@carlahall: I love Chicago, San Fran and NYC of course.
@jackigarfinkel: If you weren't on the show, who would you want to win?
@carlahall: That's a hard question. I think Dale T. He has matured so much since being on Season 4, and he's killing it.
@iVillage: What's it like to hear those words, "pack your knives and go?"
@carlahall: I don't know. I haven't heard it yet. I didn't hear it on Season 5.
@nerdycalgal: How have you and your life changed because of your being on Top Chef, this time around?
@carlahall: I've learned to balance work, appearances and family. I still want more time with family and friends.
@jennifermerritt: Any cookbooks in the works?
@carlahall: I'm working on the book proposal as we speak with Genevieve Ko. It's a lot of homework!
@AmyOnThePrairie:Would you consider doing a kids cooking show? My girls would love you!
@carlahall: I luvvvvvvv cooking with kids. I do a lot of work with kids and food. I would not be opposed to a cooking show with kids.
@iVillage: I'm throwing a baby shower. Do you have ideas for non-alcoholic drinks that sill feel festive?
@carlahall: It's all about making simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water), flavoring it however you like and adding fizz ... ginger simple syrup, lime juice, cranberry concentrate, lemon or lime selzer. Yummy
@iVillage: What's been the highlight of your time on Top Chef? The lowlight?
@carlahall: Highlight - Jimmy Fallon hands down. He is AWESOME! Lowlight - Chinatown. You know, when I made Thai food. LOL.
@joshfried: Are there more chef-testant hook-ups than Bravo would like to admit?
@carlahall: I can't say there are. No love affairs to speak of.
@iwishiwasfrench: I love that you make so many vegetarian dishes on Top Chef. Have you ever been a vegetarian or do you have friends who are?
@carlahall: Ah oui oui! I have lots of vegetarian friends, & I happen to love veggies. I like meat, but I don't miss it when it's not featured.
@kirstenhaley: When is your café in a particular location in the West End neighborhood of DC expected to open?
@carlahall: The West End is a dream spot, but not solidified right now (wink, wink to the developers). Building won't be ready for 2 years.
@iVillage: What can we expect from tomorrow night's episode of Top Chef All-Stars with @Paula_Deen? Lots of butter, y'all?
@carlahall: Paula Deen brings her "butter" game ... I mean A-game. She has so much energy. I love 'er!!
@LavatoryLady: When will the cookie line go live on the internet? I've been dying for more since I had them at your cooking class.
@carlahall: The cookies are available, but there is no shopping cart yet. Go to our website www.alchemybycarlahall.com to find out more.
@iVillage: What did you think of Top Chef Just Desserts?
@carlahall: I loved seeing Gail Simmons and Johnny Iuzzini, but I have to say I thought it was a commercial for why you shouldn't eat sugar.
@iVillage: Who are your favorite female chefs from all the seasons?
@carlahall: It's too hard to list, I love them all. I love Antonia & I'm having lunch with Tiffany D. today. Ariane from Season 5 is my girl.
@iVillage: So, we have to ask -- who wins Top Chef All-Stars?!
@carlahall: AND THE WINNER IS ... yeah right! I don't have $1 million. Watch what happens Wednesday nights at 10 on @BravoTV.
@iVillage: That's all, folks! Thanks to everyone joined us! Be sure to watch Top Chef All-Stars every Wednesday night at 10 p.m. on Bravo.
@carlahall: Thanks for your questions everyone. This was loads of fun. Huge hugs! I love these @iVillage folks!
