Top Chef sure knows how to get America excited. This week’s quickfire and elimination challenge included two of American’s favorite things to do and eat: ice cream and party. Now, don’t get excited, we all know this sounds too good to be true. What’s the catch? You’ll have to wait and find out.
The quickfire challenge tonight was one of the most interesting and fun ones thus far. With guest judge Govan Armstrong keeping an eye out on the cheftestants, they had 45 minutes to mix their own ingredients into the new sweet cream flavor of Coldstone Creamery.
“I immediately think peach cobbler. A lot of texture. For me, it’s a no brainer,” bragged Dale. While peach cobbler may be a no-brainer, Tre definitely didn’t stick behind Casey’s spicy flavors she decided to include.
Turns out the no-brainer-cobbler was a huge hit for the judges, and Dale won immunity for the next round.
Though Dale was “off the hook,” the rest of the team was ready for some more obscure Top Chef action. Turns out they thought they were all “off the hook” after Lakshmi told them they were in for a night on the town.
While the cheftestants transformed into partiers; the girls putting on makeup, the guys spraying that cologne, little did they know the ironic twist to this elimination challenge.
All jazzed up and ready to finally spend time with people other than those surrounding them 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, these excited cheftestants were in for a ride. As they arrived outside Nikki Nightclub in their white stretch limo, their smiles abruptly faded as soon as they saw that familiar face standing outside the club: Padma.
“…and all our dreams came to a crashing halt,” complained CJ.
The cheftestants were informed of their elimination challenge; rather than being a late night partier, they were going to cook for the late night partiers. Now it’s all making sense.
Team black - Tre, Brian, Sara and Hung, decided to go with a raw bar, which was controversial. Team orange - Howie, Sara, Casey, and CJ, had their menu right on the ball with some fries here and some bacon there.
Dale happened to win a lucky quickfire challenge, for he really had the night off. He and Goven fine dined at Goven’s restaurant for the night devouring scrumptious dishes, while his fellow cheftestants were cooking their butts off.
Though Team Orange started off with a delicious menu, it did not taste as good as it sounded. Sara was asked to pack her knives and go home, only after Howie had called her the “baby” of the group. Rough day.
