Well this season of Top Chef is over, but we ain't done yet! Welcome to this week's Top Chef, the Reunion!
Interestingly enough, it was pointed out that Richard would not be attending this year's reunion because his wife was about to give birth! I guess of all excuses in the book to miss the reunion, your wife giving birth is allowed.
We start off finding out a few things about Stephanie. First of all, she was extremely happy and shocked to be the winner (obviously). She mentions that she is happy to be the first female Top Chef, but she would rather be known as the Season 4 winner vs the first female Top Chef (so people don't think she only won because she was a woman). Also we find out that she will be using the money to open another restaurant in Chicago. Props to the hometown winner!
We also find out that Mark (despite his homo-erotic bath with Spike) was recently married and would be staying in the country for a while now. I guess he will be able to share a pint with Colicchio.
Speaking of Spike, we are reminded that he wasn't exactly the most truthful contestant on the show. We also learn that Stephanie actually hated Spike for a good portion of the show. Who knew? They have since made amends and she actually thinks he is a pretty cool guy. But is he cool enough to win fan favorite? Just for the record, my money is on Richard.
I thought it was an interesting observation that Antonia continued the curse of Casey. She was called the Black Hammer by her castmates because she just kept knocking off the competition. She claims it was nothing she did, just how things went, but the other chefs didn't agree.
One of my favorite parts of the night were the stew room outtakes. It's kind of funny watching drunk, bored chefs trying to entertain themselves. My personal favorite was the David Copperfield impression with Mark in the rolling cart.
I also really enjoyed the Lisa recap clip. It was funny see just how mean she looks on TV! It was clear she had a very angry demeanor and she played the evil card very well.
We also learned this year's tag line t-shirt. Drum roll please...."I have a culinary boner". Thanks for that one Andrew. Just in case you are wondering, this shirt is available on the BravoTV.com Web site.
Thanks to the wonders of satellite, we got to find out how Richard is doing. He just recently set up a new restaurant in Atlanta and will be welcoming his baby daughter into the world very soon (read above). He is bummed he didn't win, but still sticks to the comment he made that night in Puerto Rico about choking. I pegged him for the winner (I'm a science geek, what can I say?) but it just wasn't his night.
And, as always, they saved the best for last - the fan favorite. Well clearly if I placed a bet I would have lost - Stephanie won the Season 4 Fan Favorite Award. And oddly enough, Stephanie broke another Top Chef record, by winning both the Top Chef title and the fan favorite. Looks like drinks are on her.
Well thank you for reading and until next season, Happy Eating!
