When Oprah comes to an end in Sept. 2011, what will viewers watch weekdays at 4 p.m.? No doubt ABC execs, faced with the tall task of filling her timeslot, have been pondering that question for months. One possible answer is a new talk show hosted by Tori Spelling and Jeff Lewis, according to the Los Angeles Times.
That paper reported on the idea back in April, when it was still in its early stages. The show "would feature Spelling and a male cohost who would basically serve as Spelling's best friend forever," wrote Joe Flint. "The network is looking for a Will & Grace vibe between Spelling and her as-yet-undiscovered BFF." Last week, Lewis seemed to emerge as that BFF.
Bravo fans know him as the smart but bratty home designer who buys, renovates and flips houses on Flipping Out. Oxygen, Bravo's sister network, is the home of Spelling's Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood. Lewis isn't as famous as Spelling, but he's openly gay and very fastidious -- very Will Truman-like traits.
If you've seen Lewis' show, you know he already has two on-air, female BFFs, Chief Operating Officer of Lewis Design, Jenni Pulos, and his sister-in-law/personal assistant, Sarah Berkman. In a Season 4 video on Bravo's Flipping Out site, Lewis and Berkman go shopping. "I love Jeffy," Berkman tells the camera. "He's a sweetsies-cutesies. We're like two little girls, we just totally hang out. We're like two little besties who have a good time. Jeff is awesome."
Looks like Spelling's moving in to steal Berkman's "bestie." It all sounds very 90210, doesn't it? Somewhere in TV heaven, I think I can hear Brenda and Kelly snickering.
