Many moms think their husbands are terrific dads, but not all have gone through a life-or-death crisis to prove just how amazing the men in their lives are. For Tori Spelling, surviving her recent health scare was a reminder of how lucky she is.
During her last pregnancy, Spelling battled the dangerous condition placenta previa. Luckily, she's now home safe with baby Finn. But during her extended hospital stay, it was up to husband Dean McDermott to look after their three elder children, Liam, 5, Stella, 4, and Hattie, 1.
"Dean's a super dad," Spelling, 39, gushes to Us Weekly. "He's a mom and dad all wrapped up into one."
During the excruciating five-month medical crisis that included four months of strict bed rest, several touch-and-go close calls, and nine hemorrhages, McDermott held down the family fort through it all.
"I couldn't fathom losing the baby or T," explains McDermott, whose own mom died when he was 15. "I'm perpetually hopeful. T gives me a hard time about it."
Spelling tells Us that her husband was her rock while she was hospitalized and away from her kids. "He was dealing with so much, but he was always really positive. We had date nights every Tuesday... Dean would spend the night at the hospital on a cot next to me and we'd talk," says the proud wife, who had to miss several events in her children's lives -- from Liam's preschool graduation to Stella's 4th birthday party to little Hattie's first word -- "Dada" -- while she was on bed rest.
McDermott credits Spelling for being so strong: "T is a warrior with a will of iron -- but also the sweetest, cutest thing in the world."
