Toyota announced a global recall of of 7.43 million vehicles due to a power window problem that could cause fires. However, the recall will only affect 2.5 million vehicles in the United States.
According to Toyota's press site, Toyota will conduct a safety recall "to inspect and apply special fluorine grease to the driver’s side Power Window Master Switch (PWMS) ... The driver’s side PWMS may experience a 'notchy' or sticky feel during operation. If commercially available lubricants are applied to the switch in an attempt to address the 'notchy' or sticky feel, melting of the switch assembly or smoke could occur and lead to a fire under some circumstances."
The recall affects multiple models throughout 2007 and 2009, such as the Yaris, RAV4, Corolla and Matrix. Owners of the affected vehicles will receive a notification letter and the switch repair will come to no cost to the vehicle owner.
