The Plot: A veteran baseball scout (Clint Eastwood) losing his clout sets out to prove his worth by checking out a rookie in North Carolina. He reluctantly embarks on that cross-country trip with his daughter (Amy Adams), where they bump into a young rival (Justin Timberlake), who takes a liking to her. The Buzz: September 21 will be a double-header for Adams. Where The Master should appeal to a cinephile crowd, Curve could fill that void left by last year’s grand-slam Moneyball. Just like Moneyball, the sport serves as a backdrop to bigger issues: in this case, family. "At every moment [Amy’s] ready to throw it in," director Robert Lorenz told Entertainment Weekly, "Justin’s character is there to sort of remind her of the value of continuing to pursue their relationship." Meanwhile, box-office analysts have been asking: Will Eastwood fans be reminded of their devotion to the actor, after his disastrous talk-to-the-chair Republican Convention appearance?
