A Trunk Full of Independance

My favorite 'mom moment' was right before I went away to college. My mother wanted to make sure that I had everything I could possibly need in her absence. I had never been away from home for any extensive length of time. She bought a storage trunk and in it she would buy necessities such as bed and bath linens, several months supply of soap, clothes detergent even rolls of quarters to go into the dormitory washers and dryers. Everything you could possibly think of to give a daughter a wonderful head start on her journey to independence was in that trunk. Every time I opened that trunk, all I could think of was the love that went into each item that was bought. I have many moments in life where my mother has been there for me, but this was a 'mom moment' I will never forget. I hope to carry on this tradition and give my son his own trunk filled with love as he starts his journey towards independence.
