From inspiring DIYs to flea market art, bloggers and designers share their favorite tips and tricks for decorating on the cheap (20 Photos)
Ikea is the place to score cheap furniture, and with a little creativity you can inject your own personality into their minimalist designs. That’s just what blogger Molly Madfis from Almost Makes Perfect did when she turned a $35 Ikea nightstand into a campaign style dresser with a few coats of paint and some stunning brass hardware. Similar styles sell for hundreds of dollars, but Molly was able to make a stylish look-alike for a fraction of the cost. For instructions on how to recreate the look, visit Molly’s blog.
Interior designer Naomi Stein from Design Manifest (http://designmanifest.blogspot.com) also worked wonders with the same Ikea dresser, but chose to push two together to create an Asian-inspired, campaign-influenced TV stand. Dressed up with high gloss black paint and exotic pulls and corner brackets, she created a striking piece of furniture that looks high end. For more photos and instructions, visit Naomi’s blog.
