Turn Down the Volume

It could be your partner's snoring, a neighbor's dog barking, airplanes roaring overhead or a toilet flushing down the hall. As we get older our sleep is more easily interrupted by noise, according to The Menopause Book. Earplugs (especially wax ones) can help. Other options are "white noise" machines, fans or air conditioners. These last two do double duty if you're having hot flashes. If falling asleep is your biggest problem, try soothing music: The two genres that worked best in one study were classical and new age.
