Music and Kids
Toddlers love to get up and dance. It can be good exercise for you too. So instead of TV, turn on some music, move your bodies and exercise your vocal chords. Try music from Raffi or Trout Fishing in America (favorites in our home). You can also try classics such as the Nutcracker or Peter and the Wolf.
Helping Out Around the House
Instead of watching TV, you can use some of the extra time to organize and straighten out closets and rooms. Your toddler or preschooler can help with small, defined jobs. For example, you could pretend to be trashmen and collect the garbage pails from various rooms. Together, you can make beds, put away puzzles, or water plants. Youngsters can also help feed and walk pets, sweep floors, vacuum rugs, and sort silverware from dishwasher to drawer. As a team, you and your child can exercise your imagination while learning/teaching responsibilities.
