As TV shows go, CBS's top-rated NCIS (Tuesdays, 8 p.m. ET) isn't exactly heavy on romance. Its crack team of investigators, led by Special Agent Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), is a colorful, quirky group, but the mission they all share is looking for clues, not love.
However, for several months now, NCIS' writers have been gently fueling the slow burn between Ziva (Cote de Pablo) and Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly). And tonight, the city of Paris will stoke the fire. “The episode puts them in the most romantic city in the world,” executive producer Shane Brennan said in an Entertainment Weekly interview. “And it puts them in the same hotel room.”
Will romance get a foothold here? "There is a scene where Tony and Ziva are outside having coffee in a French restaurant and they end up riding away on a little motor scooter," he said in a TV Guide interview. "It is very romantic-looking, and it is very French, and it is very Tony DiNozzo." Of course, coy producers will say anything to drum up interest in a new episode, and one motor scooter ride does not a love affair make.
Even if tonight's NCIS episode turns out to be a red herring, the Tony-Ziva pairing is just one of the "will-they-or-won't-they" relationships tantalizing TV viewers this season. Others include: Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) and Renee (Annie Wersching) on CBS' 24; Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) on NBC's Chuck
Will any of these couples finally hook up this season? With sweeps coming up in February and May, sparks are likely to fly -- if only these star-crossed pairs would just let themselves fall in love already!
