It looks like celebrities have found a new way to come out of the closet: through social media!
After years of speculation, actress Raven-Symone sent a tweet on August 2 revealing how happy she is that she can now get married thanks to the government.
While the tweet is mostly in support of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn The Defense of Marriage Act, the fact that this means she can now get married has sent the Twitter world buzzing.
Following the tweet, Raven became an instant worldwide trending topic. In 2012, rumors hit the Internet about the former Disney star’s sexual orientation. But the extremely private Raven-Symone responded to the rumors via Twitter saying, “My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I’m datings to know. I’m not for a public display of my life.”
With marriage equality being a constant focus on the news, it looks like the actress may have decided to let the world know where she stands.
The former Cosby kid isn’t the only celeb to use Twitter to inform fans of their sexual orientation. Actors Matt Dallas, Joanna Johnson and former baseball star Jose Canseco have also used Twitter to come out. Things have certainly changed from the days when celebs graced the covers of magazines like Ellen DeGeneres.
One thing about Twitter is that while it can open celebs to criticism, it also allows fans to support their favorite stars in the decisions they make. Many fans sent sentimental tweets to Raven supporting her decision and Raven proudly retweeted most of them.
