Ugly Betty Recap: 10/11/2007

Last time on Ugly Betty, we were left hanging as to whether the oh-so-romantic kiss between Henry and Betty happens. Well, we open with Henry getting totally punked by Betty as she finds Henry drunk off a wine cooler- definitely an inappropriate time to reconcile. Betty does want to be with Henry, but not until she finds out who the baby's daddy really is. A drunk Henry proceeds to pass out on Betty's lap...

Henry wakes up to find himself still at the Suarez home, and drinking Hilda's hangover punch- an interesting concoction of tomato juice, raw egg and bacon grease.

This just in- Amanda is not Bradford's daughter! She can continue to sleep with Daniel as much as she wants now that they aren't half related! That's a shame, I had some high hopes for the Cruel Intentions-esque storyline.

Betty is on a mission to find Daniel a fancy new wheelchair so he can ride in style at the annual Black and White Ball. Escaped con Claire, finds this as the perfect opportunity to sneak in and change Bradford’s mind. The ball gives Amanda a chance to have her official coming out as Fey Sommer’s daughter.

In order to get Alexis’s blessing for the wedding, Wil’s revives her memory- and adds a twist of her own. She lies to Alexis saying that they were once BFF, and reveals to her that the postponed wedding plans were because Bradford was afraid of her reaction to the situation. Feeling incredibly guilty, Alexis falls prey to her evil plans…

At Mode, Betty runs into a bit of a riff with the new sandwich guy, Gio, when he refuses to give Betty more sun dried tomatoes. Betty is appalled by Gio’s attitude, and complains to Daniel who puts in the word to have Gio fired. When an outraged Gio confronts Betty at Mode, he reveals the truth that there is no such thing as fat-free mayo! GASP. Amanda and Marc applaud Betty for getting rid of him, adding, “You’re finally one of us!” Upset that she was called a Mode girl by the sandwich guy, Betty proves that she indeed is not- by getting Gio his job back. When he refuses her kindness, Betty asks for a lift to Jersey to pick up the wheelchair for Daniel.

Back in Mexico, the mysterious man with a gun to Ignacio’s head is joined by another mysterious man who appears to be his father. Ramiro (the father) says… “It seems you did not kill me after all”…

When Justin asks for Daniel’s help in learning the game of basketball in memory of Santos, Daniel gets up off his wheelchair with ease and shoots a hoop. Daniel can walk?! Yup. And he’s faking it because he wants to see his physical therapist one last time because she is mighty fin…smart. Mighty smart. And he would love to have an intellectual conversation with her. Yes, that’s it.

Returning to the story in Mexico, it seems that Ignacio did give Ramiro quite a beating back in the day to protect his wife Rosa from his drunken abuse. Ramiro tells Ignacio that his life may be spared if he makes him some good flan. You read it right- flan as in the dessert. So the flan is amazing, but Ramiro decides to kill Ignacio after all- a gunshot is heard from the house. Who gets shot?

While preparing for the ball, Betty gets the news from Hilda that Daniel can walk when she accidentally comes across a photo of him in action while on Justin’s phone. An angry Betty confronts Daniel and storms off. Meanwhile, Amanda is not getting as much attention as she expected from the paparazzi—that is, until Marc steps on her dress and Amanda pulls a Tara Reid (but worse!).
Claire arrives at the ball with Yoga and has a moment with Bradford to try and win his heart back. In an attempt to break Claire’s heart completely, Wil interrupts the reception ceremony to announce that the wedding between her and Bradford are back on. Bradford leaves Claire coldly by telling her “Your life was over the day you murdered Fey Sommer”.

With apologies Daniel brings a (half-eaten) bagel to Betty. All Betty really wants is to enroll in a writing class during lunch to get back on track with her dreams as a writer. Daniel is supportive of her. Betty finds a sandwich full of sun dried tomatoes wrapped up with a nice little bow by Gio. On her way out, Henry finds a moment to tell her that he has spoken with Charlie and that they will be doing a paternity test to find out the identity of the father, all they can do now is wait. Henry notices the sandwich and asks if it was a gift. It’s just the way they wrap it, Betty lies. Hmmm…

The episode comes to a happy end when Ignacio steps into the door of the Suarez home (unless this is another one of those dream sequences).

Is it just me, or do you all sense something fishy going on with Betty and the Gio? I’m all for Team Henry, but the way Gio and Betty quarrel is kinda cute. I did find him a little rude and annoying at first, but he’s pushing Betty to pursue her dreams… and well what’s Henry done but (maybe) get Charlie pregnant and Betty all frustrated? So what does everyone think – Henry or the sandwich guy?

Chime In
