In The Ugly Truth, out on DVD Nov. 10, TV producer Abby (Katherine Heigl) calls her promiscuous anchorman Mike (Gerard Butler) a "manwhore" one night over drinks. Ouch! This insult sent me straight to the Urban Dictionary: "Someone who repeatedly sleeps with random women indiscriminately without regard to any consequences."

The definition fits Mike's character, right up until the fake Hollywood resolution where the macho, macho man gives it all up for the love of an irresistibly good woman. Right!

As unlikely as it seemed that The Ugly Truth's Mike and Abby would end up together, there's similar fictionalizing in the world of celebrity matchmaking. Since Butler, 39, is unmarried and at large, he's constantly being paired with available women who seem in need of a Brad to their Jen.

Case in point: Jennifer Aniston, herself. During the filming of The Bounty, paparazzi photos surfaced showing costars Aniston and Butler deep in discussion, holding hands. They must be an item!

Recently, reports linked Butler with desperate damsel Jessica Simpson. Page Six reported that Butler and Simpson hooked up for a date at Manhattan's Soho House. In the past, he's also been linked to Cameron Diaz, Rosario Dawson and Naomi Campbell, among many others.

When I saw Butler last year at the Toronto Film Festival, he was enjoying the attentions of numerous scantily clad young women at a photo booth set up inside for the guests at a late-night party. The Scottish-born beefcake didn't seem lonely, or needy, or desperate: he seemed like a robust guy (flabbier than his 300 Spartan) who was going to take as many women back to his hotel as he could fit into his limo.

The not-so-ugly truth is that not all men are happier domesticated in relationships, with or without star connections. As someone who came relatively late to stardom, Butler is still enjoying the spoils. So next time you see him linked with a bachelorette about town or co-star, here's a little insider info: don't you believe it's the whole truth!
