Is Uma Thurman Too Old for Robert Pattinson?

Uma Thurman's rep recently confirmed to People.com that the 39-year-old actress is set to star alongside Twilight’s Robert Pattinson, 23, in Bel Ami,  a movie based on a 19th-century story by French writer Guy de Maupassant. Pattinson will play a bad-boy journalist. And Thurman? Well, she won’t be playing his mother, if that’s what you’re thinking. She’ll be playing one of his older love interests.

Posts all over the web seem to think Thurman is a tad too old -- 16 years older, but who’s counting? -- for the hot young Pattinson, and that is even though Thurman, entering her fourth decade on this planet, is a real head-turner by any standard. But the age difference isn't any more extreme than the May-December romance between Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal -- his 60 to her 32 -- in Crazy Heart.

Thurman also plays the serpent-tressed goddess Medusa in Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (slated for release next month) and  she certainly has an adoring fan in director Chris Columbus. "She's someone who's so sensual and seductive," Columbus told the Los Angeles Times, "that you'll look into her eyes and forget that she has 75 snakes on her head."
