Note from Beth: I'd like to introduce you to our newest TV Cocktail contributor, Ed Bark, otherwise known as Uncle Barky, who has his own new blog but is going to be visiting us and imparting his TV wisdom on a weekly basis. Ed's fresh from a 25-plus year stint as the TV critic at the Dallas Morning News, which ended after a massive round of buyouts killed the newspaper's arts coverage. That's pretty much more experience than the rest of us TV Cocktail contributors rolled together. That's not to say that we are neophytes, it's just meant to highlight the fact that Ed's got a lot to say and he's worth hearing. And when I say they guy has been around the block, I don't mean you should expect reviews of 20 Good Years -- Ed's hip enough to have a blog, isn't he? To prove it, here's Uncle Barky's take on Hair Trauma: It's all about tresses and stresses on We cable's Hair Trauma, starring high-strung stylist to the stars Ellin LaVar. Basically we have Barber Shop in heels, with the boss lady gettin' all worked up, but usually not for long. Her Upper West Side salon is "family," after all, with Ellin and brother Jeffrey often having to ride herd over slacker sister, Kim. Hair Trauma's first episode, repeated Wednesday night at 10:30 (ET), finds Kim on the receiving end of a loud chew-out after again strolling in unfashionably late. She responds by firing off what may be a "reality" show line for the ages: "But see, I'm the bad person. But then if I put the dogs out -- roof, roof! -- then we know what time it is."
