Under the Tuscan Sun (2003)

Not only is Tuscan pure escapist fun, but watching the life-affirming movie is like picking up an issue of an Italian travel magazine. Diane Lane plays Frances Mayes, a writer whose world is upended when she finds out her husband is cheating on her. Her pregnant BFF Patti (Sandra Oh) suggests the depressed Frances head off on a trip to Tuscany, where she falls in love -- with a rundown villa. Frances buys the villa and bonds with her quirky new neighbors and the Polish immigrants who help her turn her fixer-upper into a lovely home. Ultimately, thanks to a wedding she hosts at the revamped homestead, she undergoes a transformation too and finds yet another love, this time of the human variety.
