A year after his 11-year-old stepson Kile died in a boating accident, Usher's 5-year-old son Usher Raymond V has been injured in a terrifying pool accident. The boy was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday, and was said to be "conscious, alert and breathing" after being trapped underwater for several minutes.
The R&B star's young son was swimming at Usher's Atlanta home when the accident occurred. He reportedly dove to the bottom of the pool to retrieve a toy from the drain when his arm got stuck. His aunt, who was supervising the boy, dove in to rescue him but was unable to get his hand out. The housekeeper then did the same thing, but couldn't free the boy. When she screamed for help, two men who were installing sound equipment in the house came running, pulled the boy from the pool, and performed CPR to get him breathing again. Scary. (TMZ has a recording of the aunt's frantic 911 call, if you feel like ruining your day.)
Usher is reportedly with his son in the ICU, though he wasn't home at the time of the accident. Details of the boy's condition are unknown.
In light of the harrowing incident, Usher's ex-wife Tameka Foster is attempting to regain custody of Usher V and his brother Naviyd, 4. Tameka is the mother of the children, but lost primary custody to Usher in a bitter court battle last year. According to TMZ, Tameka believes that Usher has created a "dangerous environment" for the children, and has requested an emergency hearing to place them in her care.
"My son is okay, but I have no further comment at this time," Foster told CNN on Tuesday.
Foster is also the mother of Usher's stepson Kile, who passed away in a tragic accident a year ago.
