Are you planning some sexy time this Valentine's Day, but have a drawer full of granny panties? Don't fret. Dana B. Myers, founder of Booty Parlor and author of "The Official Mojo Makeover: Four Weeks to a Sexier You," gave us the lowdown on how to survive shopping for skivvies:
What should women look for when lingerie shopping? Is it like swimsuit shopping?
It's exactly like swimsuit shopping because you're not wearing very much, and often you are dealing with less-than-ideal overhead lighting.
But don't be afraid of the dressing rooms. Prep your body ahead of time, so when you try on items, you look the way you will in your bedroom. Shave your legs, use a body scrub (editor's pick: Booty Parlor's Flirty Little Secret Pink Caviar Scrub With Pheromones, $24) and a luxe lotion, and bring some heels with you. And keep in mind that compared to large department stores, smaller lingerie shops like Victoria's Secret and stand-alone boutiques usually have better lighting because they want you to look your best, so that you make a purchase!
When shopping for bras or corsets for Valentine's Day, try on a cup size smaller than usual for more "push up." You don't want to get squeezed in the wrong places, but it might surprise you, and give you some extra sexy lift. And if I'm undecided [about an item], I take a snapshot of my mirror image using my phone camera. Then I can look back and get a better perspective. I do that with swimsuits as well.
Also, get your mind and confidence in the right place. Think sexy thoughts when you're browsing and trying on your lingerie. Think about when you are going to be wearing this lingerie. Does it turn you on? Will it inspire you in the actual moment when you're wearing it? For fun, take a photo of a small detail, like a bit of a lacy strap against your skin, and text it to your guy as a tease. It will get you both excited and that makes the shopping trip more fun!
Another confidence booster? Bring a friend! You'll probably end up daring each other to try pieces on that you normally wouldn't, and from there you might discover a new racy look that turns you on.
What's the one must-have piece of lingerie a woman should invest in for Valentine's Day or any romantic night?
If you were choosing one piece, then I recommend a pair of panties. Because you can wear them with a camisole for a sexy look or with a tight t-shirt.
Or you can go topless! Use a sexy shimmering body lotion, and your bare skin and décolletage will look amazing and radiant. Slip on your new panties and your sexiest pair of heels, and you will be ready for anything.
Because this is for Valentine's Day (and something you wouldn't necessarily wear), try a sheer pair with backside cleavage, sexy cutouts or ribbons that tie (and untie) at the hips. Plus, panties with ruching details give the look of a lifted butt -- like magic!
