Valerie Bertinelli is my hero.
I've always been a fan -- I mean who didn't want to be Barbara Cooper back in the One Day at a Time days -- but once again, thirty years later, Val has me wishing I were her.
The actress went public with her weight battle a couple of years back, becoming the spokesperson for Jenny Craig and losing over 40lbs -- but now Valerie has done the most anxiety-inducing thing a woman who struggles with her weight can do -- she's put on a bikini! And posed on the cover of a magazine!!! At 48!!!
"I thought, Am I really going to do this? Can I pull this off?" Val told People magazine. But she managed to self-talk herself success by saying, "What am I so afraid of? Come on - it's just a bathing suit!"
"I thought, If I'm so afraid of a bikini, there's something wrong. And so I had to get back into one!"
Valerie said she did step up her regular game to prepare for this shoot by hiring a personal trainer in December and trimming her caloric intake from 1,700 to 1,200 during the last three weeks.
"It was crunch time," she says, "like getting ready for your class reunion!"
Well, the crunch has paid off. "I never, ever, ever had deltoids!" she says. "Oh my God, when I'm doing exercises and I see them pop out, I'm like, Yes!"
So, let's see, I'm 34, so I have 14 years to get myself thin enough to pose in a bikini and on the cover of People?
Oh well, so much for free cake. One day at a time, friends, one day at a time...
