Turns out that all those rumors that Johnny Depp and longtime love Vanessa Paradis have split might be just that -- rumors.
Although the 39-year-old actress stayed mum on whether she and Depp had ended their 14-year-long relationship while at Monday's red-carpet premiere of her new movie Cafe de Flore, she was a just a tad more forthcoming on Tuesday when French TV panelist Arianne Massenet put the question to her on the show Le Grand Journal.
"The press is going on about this separation with Johnny Depp... How do you handle these rumors?" Massenet asked (according to People's French correspondent, who translated the interview).
"It depends which rumor," Paradis replied. "Here, this is one which could hurt my family. After that... they say that we have 52 houses in France, we separate in winter, we get married every summer. Me, I'm in my 12th pregnancy."
"All this is, I don't know, because the Queen of England didn't lose her teeth this week and there's nothing happening," Paradis continued.
But recognizing these statements as a bit of artfuf dodging on Paradis' part, the program's host, Michel Denisot, asked point-blank: "And to finish the rumors off, they are false?"
"Yes, they are false," Paradis replied.
Even so, People insists that multiple sources have confirmed that Depp and Paradis' relationship is "all but officially over."
The breakup rumors initially sparked because the couple hasn't been seen together on a red carpet in more than a year. But, if Paradis' comments in a 2010 interview with the U.K. edition of Marie Claire are any indication, it could just be that that's how their relationship works.
"The fact that we're not together every day plays a big part in keeping our relationship stable," she said. "We understand that, if we want our relationship to continue, we must give each other space, allow each other to go off on our own, and trust each other... You're really lucky if you find someone you can trust when you spend time apart."
