Victoria Beckham might not be perfect in all facets of life, but she does know best when it comes to her fashion sense. The model and designer -- and, of course, former Spice Girl -- admits it hasn't been easy learning to rely on other people as her fashion empire grows.
"You've got to trust people," the 38-year-old tells Elle in the magazine's March issue. "And because I am a control freak, that's difficult for me because I want to micro-manage absolutely everything. I can't hand over. But I'm trying to do that more. It's hard because I have such a specific vision."
Beckham explains that her desire in delving into the world of fashion, beyond her own interest in the subject, is the fact that she wants to set herself apart from those around her. Instead of being a singer in a girl group or the wife of David Beckham, she wants to be known as Victoria Beckham -- and she's succeeded, in our opinion.
"When I was on stage with the Spice Girls, I thought people were there to see the other four and not me. And when I go out with David and people take pictures I think, 'They’re here to take David’s picture,'" she says. "It was never my intention to prove anybody wrong. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. I don’t have to work, I need to work. All these people [her fellow fashion designers], they’ve not just been given anything. They’ve worked hard. And I’ve never been given anything either. But I have a good work ethic."
The mom of four says her strong work ethic is something she hopes pass on to her kids -- and that's something we're already starting to see in them. Her 13-year-old son Brooklyn recently tried out for London soccer club Chelsea, while the two younger boys -- Romeo, 10, and Cruz, 7 -- just started a six-week training program with the club. Romeo also starred in Burberry's Spring/Summer 2013 ad campaign. (He clearly has a bit of his mother's knack for fashion, as he was honored on GQ's Best-Dressed List in 2011.) And we're guessing it won't be too long until 1-year-old Harper follows suit!
Clearly Victoria is an accomplished designer and mother. But there is one area where she's not so great: cooking. Luckily, her family accepts her shortcomings in the kitchen.
"You know what [my children] say to me, because I’m not the best cook, although I try really hard? They always say to me, 'Mummy, we know that the main ingredient in what you make is love,'" she says with a laugh.
