Don't want to sing Christmas carols with Amy Poehler? Too bad! (Also, what's wrong with you? Go get some holiday spirit!) In a special holiday video for Fuse TV, Amy joins comedian Billy Eichner in an attempt to ambush New Yorkers into singing Christmas carols on the street. They even offer them a dollar if they can remember the words. Does it work? Watch below!
Some background here, for those of you unfamiliar with Eichner: he's the host of a video series called Billy on the Street, in which he accosts New Yorkers with random questions and requests. (The show originated on the website Funny or Die, and has since been picked up by Fuse.) His schtick is obnoxious, silly and very, very funny. And this Christmas caroling date with Amy isn't the first time he's ambushed strangers with a celebrity.
Here he is with Zachary Quinto in a segment called "It's Spock! Do You Care?"
And here's one called "It's Debra Messing, You Gays!"
The Amy Poehler caroling prank really tops them all, though. We love that she dressed all old-timey for the occasion. We have mad respect for all the New Yorkers who immediately launched into Christmas carols without questioning a thing, even if their idea of a Christmas carol is "Happy Birthday" or they can't pronounce "snow." And it's fun to see people's faces light up when they realize that Amy Poehler actually wants to sing with them. (Tom and Fernando, you are a-okay in our book!)
Naturally, this moment has already been immortalized in a GIF:
In conclusion, it's a good idea to brush up on your Christmas carol lyrics this December, just in case Amy Poehler comes around. You might even get a dollar out of it.
