An Unexpectedly Sweet Moment in College Sports (We're Choked Up!)

Hard work pays off for a basketball player and his mom -- and this feel-good video captures the moment

Sometimes hard work really does pay off. James Montgomery III -- who has been a walk-on player on Northwestern University's basketball team for the past two years -- was surprised by his coach recently with an incredible announcement: He's a walk-on no more. James is being awarded a full scholarship this year.

"James shows up every day...and the guy who's doing the best job of what he's supposed to do, every day, is James," the coach told the team.

That's inspiring (and a little tear-inducing) news on its own, but what really makes the video a feel-good moment is when James calls his mom and sister to tell them the news -- and mom starts screaming and crying.

Worth a fist-pump? We think so.
