Crying into your beer may be a cliche, but crying at a beer commercial? That's practically unheard of! This new Guinness commercial, however, breaks the mold. It's heartwarming, inspirational, and makes you want a cold one. We won't spoil the ending; just watch it below!
It's okay if you need to grab a tissue. Go on, we'll wait.
The one-minute commercial went fully viral this weekend, racking up over 3 million views. Why did it hit such a nerve? We can think of three good reasons.
1. It's surprising. Not only does the Guinness ad have a plot twist (not an easy thing to pull off in 60 seconds!), but it's the opposite of what we expect from beer commercials: no bikinis, no talking dogs, no ski lodge full of beer-guzzling models.
2. It uses a great song that you may not have heard before. That would be "To Build a Home" by The Cinematic Orchestra. Here's the music video.
3. It gives men some credit. Most guys have more on their minds than getting drunk, watching football and ogling women -- but you wouldn't know it from most beer ads. Instead of recycling tired, negative stereotypes, the Guinness ad focuses on the positive: the power of male friendship. And because it doesn't reduce women to nagging wives or sex objects, it strikes a chord with men and women. Funny how that works!
Now pass the Guinness. We hear it's good for you.
