Call us crazy, but we're starting to think that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's kids are a teeny bit spoiled. No, it wasn't the international vacations or the private island getaways that tipped us off. It's the fact that little Vivienne Jolie-Pitt is now making $3000 a week!
According to a contract glimpsed by TMZ, 4-year-old Vivienne is raking in the dough for appearing in her mom's upcoming film Maleficent, a twist on the Sleeping Beauty story. For her performance as young Princess Aurora (the flashback version of the Elle Fanning role), Vivienne will receive 3K a week, plus $60 a day to cover expenses.
Putting aside the issue of what daily expenses a 4-year-old could possibly have (finger paints? sippy cup refills?), the big question is: Why would a kid this young be getting this kind of payday? And the answer is: She is totally worth it. At least, as far as Disney is concerned.
Think about it this way: The thing movie studios want most in the world is for people to pay attention to their films. Angelina Jolie commands plenty of attention on her own, but when you factor in her children, the sky's the limit. Imagine seeing the spawn of Brangelina in HD, instead of the usual blurry paparazzi shot! Think of all those cute mother-daughter memories that Angelina can bring to the press tour! And what does Brad think of his daughter's sudden movie stardom? We don't know, but guaranteed, we are going to find out.
This is the kind of publicity that is literally worth millions. So at $3000 a week, Vivienne is a bargain. (Incidentally, Jolie-Pitt kids Pax, 8, and Zahara, 7, also appear in the film, but only as extras; not traditionally a high-paying gig.)
Now, even though Disney can totally justify the cost, Vivienne's salary (which would total $156,000 for a full year) is a lot for a child actor. It's especially a lot for someone who is a) under 5 years old, and b) probably has very little dialogue. However, if she gets bitten by the acting bug, Viv will be soon able to demand an even higher paycheck.
For proof, let's look to another child of Hollywood A-listers, Jaden Smith. Just 10 years old when he began shooting The Karate Kid, Jaden received an up-front salary of $1 million. Jaden also received a cut of the profits (a move that, in general, only big stars like his father Will Smith can pull), bringing his total pay to $3 million.
In other words, if you've got the talent and the drive, being a celebrity kid is a lucrative career path. Wonder how many of the six Jolie-Pitt children will decide to join the family business?
