Bad news for Russell Brand -- he's a wanted man, and we're not talking about with the ladies. The New Orleans police department has issued a misdemeanor arrest warrant after Brand acted out during a run-in with a paparazzo earlier this week.
On Monday, the 36-year-old funnyman -- who is in the Big Easy while filming a new Diablo Cody movie -- reportedly became so angry with a photographer who was following him that he snatched the man's iPhone and hurled it through a law firm window. Though Brand promised the law firm he would pay for whatever damages were incurred, it is paparazzo Timothy Jackson who filed a police report immediately after the incident, citing "criminal damages."
According to TMZ, the police department issued a misdemeanor warrant for "simple criminal damage to property" on Wednesday. Representatives for Cody's film have not yet responded to requests for comments, though Brand will likely just pay whatever fine has been placed on him and move forward with his life.
However, Brand gave a different explanation for his lashing out against the photographer's phone. He took to his Twitter account Wednesday morning to comment on the incident, though added his own comedic twist to it.
"Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently," he tweeted. "What I did was a tribute to his memory."
Whatever the reason for Brand's behavior, he definitely shouldn't audition for American Idol until he gets this whole warrant situation straightened out.
