Jay Cutler should have known better than to think he could tame the former bad girl of The Hills, Kristin Cavallari.
A source close to the couple, who just broke off their engagement, says that the Chicago Bears quarterback did his best to take charge of his former fiancee's life -- and his controlling ways reportedly led to their demise.
"Jay Cutler was beyond controlling and didn't really like Kristin to go out," a Cavallari pal told People.com. "When she did go out, he called all the time and demanded to know exactly where she was going and who she was with."
The friend adds: "He made her choose between him and being friends with a lot of her girlfriends. I'm not surprised it didn't last."
Cavallari, 24, and Cutler, 28, were reportedly planning to marry this summer, and the reality star is said to be "devastated" by the end of the relationship.
If there was one thing we learned from watching Kristin on Laguna Beach and The Hills, it was that she didn't take kindly to being told what to do. You would think Jay would have known this about her before popping the question -- but maybe he didn't have MTV.
