MTV's 16 and Pregnant, a wildly popular docuseries about dealing with teen pregnancy, has probably (or at least hopefully) helped to prevent some teen viewers from getting themselves into a similar situation.
That is, except for the 10 girls who apparently didn't see the show, and are now starring in their own cautionary tales. Season 3 of the controversial show premieres April 19 at 10 p.m. ET. Based on the below preview, the moms featured on this season are heading down some of the series' well-trodden paths. Some are deciding whether or not to give the baby up for adoption, while others are dealing with disappointed family members -- or reacting to less-than-stellar baby daddies (shocker!). Watch the season 3 preview below:
Such pressures have led prior stars, such as Amber Portwood and Jenelle Evans, down a path towards domestic violence. In Evans' case, her outbursts have continue off camera, and have led to ongoing legal woes that could lead to jail time.
Of course, that's just the sort riveting drama that's drawn record numbers of viewers to 16 and Pregnant and its spin-off series Teen Mom. So it's not surprising that, though the trailer doesn't highlight it, we do get glimpses of more violence coming up in season 3. Jennifer Del Rio of Riverview, Fla., loses her temper with her boyfriend, Josh, punching him and later screaming, "Say goodbye to your kids, Josh! You will never see them again!"
But Del Rio's episode comes later. First up is Jordan Ward, a Missouri teen whose boyfriend Brian appears to be a responsible guy (for the time being). The drama in Ward's life comes from her twin sister Jessica, who whines and cries about being neglected now that her sister is preoccupied with baby Noah.
It's always something with this show. You might say that's why they call it a cautionary tale.
