Who better to promote MTV's Video Music Awards than Britney Spears? She's been nominated 28 times (and won four), and her performances at the show -- you know, dancing with a snake; writhing around in a skin-colored, sequined body suit; and kissing Madonna, etc. -- are legendary.
So it's no surprise she's one of the artists featured in a series of choppy, artsy video clips touting the 28th annual awards show (August 28, 9 p.m. ET).
In the Spears promo, she enters a club pulsating with the sounds of her own songs, mixed with those of Janet Jackson and Madonna. The walls are adorned with posters and song titles from those two influences, plus a quick allusion to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." Meanwhile, her fellow clubbers are dressed in some of her own, iconic outfits from past videos. It ends with Brit dancing in front of a screen teasing "A Tribute to Britney Spears." Watch the sizzling promo here!
"The general concept of what we are going for is basically called 'The Muse Factory,'" director Jahai Brightly tells MTV News. "It's where all your favorite artists that are going to be at the Video Music Awards this year meet and explore their influences and inspirations."
We're happy to see Britney getting some love and we're hoping that all of this is a sign that she's finally back after countless bumps in the road! She's had a great year -- her seventh album, Femme Fatale, hit number one on the Billboard charts, and she's spent the summer on tour with her boyfriend Jason Trawick and her sons, Jayden, 4, and Preston, 5, in tow.
We'll have to wait and see what this "tribute" will be all about or if she'll even perform at the VMAs. Regardless, she's up for a few awards -- for Best Pop Video and/or for Best Choreography for the song "Till the World Ends" -- so the night will be exciting for her nonetheless. We wish her the best of luck!
