Check Out the 20 Seconds That Earned Matt Damon $3M

The actor joins the ranks of other celebrities who took home a pretty sweet payday to star in a cheesy foreign ad

Further proof that life isn't fair: The easiest way to make millions of dollars is to already have millions of dollars. Matt Damon proved this point recently, when he agreed to appear in a 20-second commercial in exchange for a $3 million payday. Watch it below!

Damon literally says two words in the entire ad (which is a follow-up to this George Clooney commercial, if you need some context). Breaking it down, he got $1 million to say "recycling," $1 million to say "yeah," and another million to chuckle. If this took an hour to film, we'd be shocked. Did he even go through hair and make-up? The guy looks a little bedraggled for someone who's earning several lifetimes' salaries in an afternoon.

Of course, you won't see Damon selling out on American television. These Nespresso commercials were produced for the U.K., and they're part of a long tradition of celebrities doing embarrassing foreign ads in exchange for giant payouts. Here are a few more A-list stars who shamelessly hawked products overseas (and probably bought yachts immediately afterwards).

At the height of his Titanic fame in 1998, Leonardo DiCaprio made $4 million advertising this Japanese credit card.

What does it take for a health nut like Gwyneth Paltrow to advertise an alcoholic drink? $7 million, apparently. Paltrow hawked the drink in 2003 in Italy and Australia.

Angelina Jolie represented Japanese cosmetic company Shiseido for two years. We don't know how much she made, but a more recent endorsement deal with Louis Vuitton earned her $10 million -- so we're guessing it's in that ballpark.

Brad Pitt's 2002 Toyota Altis commercial aired in Asia, but was reportedly banned in Malaysia for making the nation's men feel less handsome. Pitt received $7 million for a Heineken commercial a few years later.

Julia Roberts received $1.5 million for this 2010 Lavazza commercial, in which she didn't say a word.
