Once your child has had an ear infection or two, you'll quickly learn how to spot one when you see these classic ear infection symptoms:

-- Earache (your child may tug on her ear if she's not verbal yet)
-- Fussiness
-- Fever of 101 degrees or higher (not all infections will cause a fever, though)
-- Sudden resurgence of fussiness or fever during a cold
-- Increased discomfort when lying flat
-- Pus that drains from the ear (sign of a ruptured eardrum; read on to learn more)
