Singing the National Anthem can be a curse for many celebrities. (We're looking at you, Christina Aguilera!) But Zooey Deschanel rocked the stadium with her flawless performance of The Star-Spangled Banner at game 4 of the World Series.
The actress is also a singer-songwriter (she's half of the indie duo She & Him) who happens to star on Fox's hit new sitcom New Girl, so it wasn't a surprise she was at bat to kick off the game between the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals. But after American Idol winner Scotty McCreery was criticized for mixing up a line in an otherwise memorable performance, all eyes were on Deschanel.
And if the National Anthem itself wasn't intimidating, former Texas Rangers co-owner President George W. Bush was on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch to legendary Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan.
But Deschanel, 31, sang perfectly, without missing a single word. Perhaps she practiced with her husband, Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard, or her She & Him partner M. Ward.
Deschanel's lovely and appropriately reverent take on the National Anthem should be a lesson to Demi Lovato, who is set to sing at game 5 Tueday night.
"Only my lovatics could land me a spot singing the national anthem at the WORLD SERIES!!!!" Lovato twittered on Friday. "I couldn't do it without you guys !!!!"
