Katherine & Ryan

Our wedding style: Rustic-elegance

Our wedding was inspired by: Our early-August ceremony took place in a field on a hill, just as the sun peeked out from behind clouds. Musicians playing accordion and fiddle led guests back down to a converted barn, where the reception was held. The pastoral feel of the upstate New York landscape was balanced with classic details -- plus a little bit of sparkle.

Something I love about my husband: He’s the funniest person I’ve ever met, and I just love spending time with him, no matter what we’re doing.

I went to a Vera Wang sample sale on a whim with my maid of honor and ended up walking away with this Chantilly lace gown for an astounding 90% off.
I love the sparkle of these Rene Caovilla shoes, which I stalked for weeks on eBay and bought new-in-box for a fraction of their original price.
These “something old” chandelier earrings were a vintage find.
My girlfriends and I pinked linen squares, filled them with birdseed and tied them off with gold rope. We rubber-stamped the bottom of each with a K & R and placed the bundles on chairs before the ceremony.
Days before the wedding our florist told us that a freak storm had killed off the world’s supply of gardenias, so we made a quick change to white orchids for the bouquets. I’m really glad we did. They lasted for weeks after the wedding. I dried one flower and saved it in a box.
It was a hot August day, so we left inexpensive little wooden fans bought in Chinatown in a basket for guests.
Instead of place-cards I cut ribbons in various green and neutral colors and stamped one end with guests’ names and the other with their table number. We strung the ribbons along a cord tied between two trees.
We purchased our invitations at a wonderful little Brooklyn press, Lion in the Sun. They’d been designed by a local graphic artist for her own wedding and adapted for us.
