Pregnancy Journal: Week thirty-three, getting ready

Pregnant women’s brains do weird things. I’ve been even more unable to sleep this week. True, it’s due mostly to my ever-increasing discomfort level, but even when I do find a temporarily comfortable position I find myself drifting into a vivid dreamland. This week’s dreams still focused on the baby items that I need to acquire. Or rather, those that I want to find. Somehow, on three separate nights, I dreamt about strollers and on the other nights I had dreams about diapering. I’ve cornered Rob and requested that he choose a stroller to end my suffering and have scoured the Internet for deals on diaper covers and supplies of cloth diapers. Hopefully these efforts during my waking hours will enable me to sleep somewhat undisturbed in the weeks ahead.

We’ve finalized plans for Jacob’s care during the baby’s birth. Assuming that is that all goes somewhat according to plan, I’ve asked my Mother to journey to the hospital and act as Jacob’s guardian and guide throughout the labor. Mom is a RN, at the moment in Pediatrics, but with significant experience in OB and delivery. So, not only will she be a trusted companion should things get stressful, she’ll be able to point out interesting equipment and answer any questions he may have in a knowledgeable and truthful manner. Our friend, with the son Jacob’s age, who lives down the road is also on standby in case Grammy is held up. She’s been so kind as to offer her house to them both, should they need and escape from the hospital for rest, play or a home-cooked meal.
