This week I’m reporting from a house that’s even more messy than before! So much for my grand ambitions. Not only is the closet not complete, we’re now living with the dust that follows the installation of sheet rock. Unfortunately we ran out of materials this weekend and to make matters worse we received a rather large snowstorm, which had us housebound for two of Rob’s three days off. Oh well. We’ll dive in again next weekend when we’re better equipped and well rested.
In the meantime, as we established that we didn’t have the materials to proceed, we seized the moment during what turned out to be a long nap for Jacob and began sorting through boxes and organizing the garage. I was quite fearful about my exposure to the trails the mouse had deposited. We forged ahead anyway in a cleaning frenzy on the advice of two doctors and my mother who assured me that the perils lay in the bacteria that could be ingested, due to lack of hand washing, etc. So, armed with several pair of rubber gloves Rob and I began what I’m sure will be an ongoing process of organizing, sweeping and general cleaning in our garage. (I did make him run the vacuum while I was tucked safely away in the house just in case we stirred up more than we’d bargained for and some harmful substances could be inhaled. He was very accommodating and I felt much better for it.) By nap’s end we’d removed about 98 percent of all traces of our former resident and had cleared a sizable portion of the garage for better use. Now if we can only find the rest of our house under all the “stuff” we’ve moved!
