Wentworth Miller Says "No Thanks, Russia" As He Reveals He Is Gay

In a letter declining an invite to Russia, the star revealed he is gay and will not visit the country due to their LGBT laws

Prison Break star Wentworth Miller has revealed that he is gay and broke the news to the world in quite a unique way. The actor came out of the closet in a letter condemning Russia's anti-gay laws!

Miller was invited to the Petersburg International Film Festival in Russia by director Maria Averbakh. The 41-year-old declined the invitation by calling out Russia’s mistreatment of the LGBT community and revealing that as a gay man he refuses to attend.

The star wrote in his letter: "Thank you for your kind invitation. As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes. However, as a gay man, I must decline. I am deeply troubled by the current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women by the Russian government. The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly. If circumstances improve, I’ll be free to make a different choice."

The letter was later posted on GLAAD’s website on Aug. 21. Following Wentworth’s revelation, fans and celebs, including Wentworth's Prison Break co-star Amaury Nolasco, took to Twitter to show their support.
