"Mom was a very plain, boring cook. But I never had to sit and face a plate full of liver. I wasn't made to clean my plate, but when I was a child the emphasis was on eating meat, as opposed to today's emphasis on vegetables. So I would be told to 'at least finish your meat.' When we were raising our children, we were rather poor and I was a back-to-the-earth hippie wannabe. So I set all manner of unusual things on the dinner table. My kids would try almost anything, but actually eating an entire serving is another story."
