If your doctor says you can’t answer the door, have your partner ask the UPS and FedEx drivers to drop packages with a neighbor. As for food, recruit your guy to fill a cooler each morning with lunch, bottled water and healthy snacks like fruit and leave it near your side. (Got a mini fridge? Even better!). If you have small kids, odds are you won’t be allowed to lift them. This is often the biggest challenge women face on bed rest, says Naketa Thigpen, Special Delivery Unit and NICU Social Worker at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. To spend time with them, turn the bed into a play space, complete with moulding clay, playing cards, crayons and coloring books. And because kids crave a loving touch, “Play massage games with oils,” says Thigpen. “Mothers love that, and kids want to get their hands dirty.”
