Secret Santa is always a gamble. Sure, you might get lucky with a super useful gift, but you're just as likely to be picked by someone regifting from the junk drawer.
The gamble paid off for one woman when she discovered that Bill Gates was her Secret Santa in the annual Reddit Secret Santa Gift Exchange.
Reddit Secret Santa began in 2009 and has grown to include a record setting 120,000 gift exchangers in 2013. Anyone can participate in the event as long they promise to send a gift to whichever user they are randomly paired with. Santas are then asked to come back to Reddit and post their thanks after that gift arrives.
For a Reddit user named Rachel that return post read "Spoiler Alert: Bill Gates did not get you because he got me."
Gates has been an avid Reddit user, participating in several threads and discussions on the site over the past year and, apparently, taking part in their annual gift exchange.
So what did Gates send his Santa?
More specifically, a stuffed cow, along with a personal note to Rachel in which he explained that a donation had been made in her name to Heifer International, an organization that provides families in impoverished areas with farm animals. Additionally he sent along a copy of National Geographic "Journeys of A Lifetime."
A little bit nerdy, a little bit charitable, a little bit sweet; it's just about everything we would expect to see in a gift from the globally conscious billionaire.
