What to Look For

How to boil perfectly cooked eggs: The yolk will be yellow and firm, with a slightly soft center, and the whites should be tender.

Undercooked eggs: The yolk and/or whites will be runny, making it a messy task to cut the egg in half.

Overcooked eggs (pictured): If you see a green-gray ring around the outside of the yolk, you have overcooked the egg and it has begun to oxidize. You’ll also notice that the whites will be tough and chewy.
