What Mothers Who Breastfeed Have to Say

As a nurse and mother I knew breastfeeding was essential for my baby's health and my family's well-being. I would do everything in my power to ensure that breastfeeding would work for us.

I think I was influenced by my mother, who works for a lactation consultant, and all the stuff on the news about the advantages of breastfeeding. I didn't start breastfeeding until I brought my son home from the hospital. My mother made me nervous because she thought I was going to have problems. The mothers she talks to every day have problems. I figured I'd give it a try because I wanted the best for my baby. That was a year ago. My son is strong, healthy and happy. I'm thinking about being a breastfeeding support counselor.
