Beauty is as Important as Comfort

“My mom has been an antiques dealer for forty years. She was my main inspiration regarding design, antiques, flea market shopping and more. She also has seven children, just like I do. An important lesson my mother imparted to me years ago -- it's not about the objects, but it is about the chase! Our tastes do differ -- my mother is more French Country (which I also love), but her lessons have remained memorable and useful. Twenty years of living in downtown Manhattan has definitely steered me toward more modern, urban design. But my love of good design and how to make any home work, for me or for a client, was inspired by her. My mom helped me to understand that a home should serve the people who live there, and not just be beautiful to live in, but comfortable and flexible and a place everybody in the family can relax and enjoy.”

-- Bob and Cortney Novogratz are a husband and wife design team and the stars of HGTV's Home by Novogratz. With seven children in tow, the hip couple have worked on luxe designs in homes across the globe.
